Owned by Frank Perlmutter, the ambler emus joined the ESFFL in 1996. They were recruited into the league by Josh Young, former owner of the lafayettehill laughers and limerick merkins. Frank joined the ESFFL Board of Governors in 2003 and has been a member of our league’s governing body ever since. The emus are no stranger to success having won consecutive Johnson Cups in 1997 and 1998. All told they have five total Fantasy Bowl appearances, 14 division titles, and 24 appearances in the Johnson Cup Playoffs. Despite playing two fewer seasons than the three founding members of the league, the emus are the second ranked team on the ESFFL All-Time Wins list entering the 2023 season. They had 260 total wins upon the conclusion of the 2022 season with a winning percentage of 0.667 which is better than any ESFFL team which has played 35 or more games. Additionally, the emus also hold the record for most consecutive Johnson Cup Playoff appearances. Their record run of consecutive appearances ended at 14 years following the 2022 season. They also own the second longest run of consecutive appearances at 10. They made that run between the 1996 and 2005 seasons. Despite the many accolades, the one thing that the emus covet the most, a third Johnson Cup Championship, has thus far eluded them. After 24 seasons without a title, and following their first year without a Johnson Cup Playoff appearance in the last 15 seasons, the emus will be highly motivated for a return to glory in 2023.
