The cecilcounty bayfoxes are a charter member of the ESFFL. Owned by ESFFL Commissioner, Jeff Rogers, the team took on the name “ottawa riverfoxes” in 1995. Jeff was living in Ottawa, Illinois, at the time, less than a mile away from the confluence of the Illinois and Fox Rivers. The Fox River of course has its headwaters near the sacred football soil of Green Bay, Wisconsin. In addition to the geographic reasons for the team name, Jeff also pays homage to his favorite animal, the fox, with whom he likes to think he shares a wily and cunning nature. The riverfoxes migrated to Elkton, Maryland, in year 2000, and in doing so morphed into bayfoxes, representing the entirety of Cecil County. The bayfoxes enjoyed an extended run of success shortly following their move. They made three Fantasy Bowl appearances during a four year period between 2001 and 2004, including their first championship in 2002. Since 2009, the bayfoxes have returned to the big game three more times. They won the championship for a second time in 2012, and finished as runner-up in 2009 and 2020.
