The earleville merchants-of-cool joined the ESFFL in 2002. They celebrated their 20th ESFFL Season in 2021 with their first Johnson Cup Playoff berth since 2016 and their first Johnson Cup Playoff win since 2015. Unfortunately a return trip to the Johnson Cup Playoffs wasn’t in the cards last season. The merchants experienced their greatest success in 2005 when they finished the season with a division title and made an unlikely run post-season run. That Johnson Cup Playoff run included a win via tie-breaker in the semifinals. In the following weeks the merchants-of-cool upset the favored mason-dixon chicks to win their first, and only to-date, ESFFL Championship. The following year, merchants-of-cool owner, Larry Clifton, invited his son, Jacob to join the league. Jacob’s team, originally known as the earleville destroyers, and later known as the hubcity redraiders, competed in the league for 16 years before bowing out following the 2021 season. The merchants-of-cool had the upper hand in their rivalry with the redraiders with 8 of the 11 head-to-head match-ups in the All-Time Series going to the father. For the 2023 season, the merchants-of-cool will look to regain the success they had in the past in the hopes of capturing their second ESFFL Title.
