The newlondon heavys joined the ESFFL in 2001. They were recruited into the league by ESFFL Commissioner Jeff Rogers. Owned by Jim Sullivan, the heavys have taken up residence in New London Township, Pennsylvania, for the entirety of their 20+ year run in the ESFFL. With an All-Time Winning % of 0.610 and 183 All-Time Wins, the heavys are one of the most successful teams in the history of the ESFFL. They have won eight division titles and have made 15 total appearances in the Johnson Cup Playoffs in their 21 years. Unfortunately for the heavys, their regular season success has not translated to success in the Johnson Cup Playoffs. The heavys experienced their most playoff success in 2021. After finishing the regular season with the league’s best record, the heavys had a bye to the quarterfinals. They were able to get past the emus in the Round of Eight, but after reaching the ESFFL’s Final Four for the first time, they were not able to make it past the maulers in the semifinals. While the heavys haven’t achieved the ultimate success in the Johnson Cup Playoffs, they have been very successful in recruiting new teams into the league. Jim Sullivan has been one of the most prolific ESFFL recruiters, directly bringing eleven teams into the league. Indirectly he’s responsible for another eight more. Among the 33 teams which competed in the ESFFL in 2021, at least nine of those teams can trace their roots to the newlondon heavys recruiting tree. Of course the heavys would prefer to be known for winning championships. With a strong core of returning players, the heavys will go back to work on that goal for the 2022 season.
